A link to the August 2015 review of the indexes for equities (domestic and international), fixed income, commodities and alternatives is in the panel on the right. I hope you find the review helpful in your communications.

Volatility returned to the market in August. Both the Dow and S&P had five days of gains or losses greater than 2% in August, making it the most volatile month in nearly four years. The S&P 500 was down –6.03%, the worst month in three years.

The international markets were also hammered. The MSCI EAFE declined –7.36%. The emerging markets fell –9.20% and are down –24.74% over the last 12 months.

As expected during declines in the equity markets, the high yield sector led the fixed income markets lower while the treasury sector became a haven for safety (Barclays U.S. Corporate High Yield –1.74%, Barclays 10-Year Treasury +0.13%).

With volatility returning and clients starting to get worried, it might be time to consider Clark Capital’s Sentry Managed Volatility strategy which is designed to offset equity declines and reduce overall portfolio volatility.

Sentry is just one of the ways Clark Capital personalizes risk management to the individual client’s needs. If you’d like to set up some time to discuss how we can help clients remain in their risk comfort zone, please call or email me.
